Impeller Syndrome
Must. Get. Ones. Act. Together.
Oh, I’m SO sorry, I’ve had a lovely influx of new subscribers (and, even more miraculously, no one has unsubscribed) and yet my head/body/life has kept me away from here…
… I’m back, randomly, with a random video of me mumbling something about impellers and screenwriting courses, and a random excerpt from The Incredible Machines of Thinkery: Northern Sky (book 3).
The impeller story - abridged for convenience - is basically, Strawberry Fields broke down and I fixed her. Not headline news in itself, but I’ve never fixed anything engine-shaped before, and didn’t even know what an impeller looked like until last week. Hence the chipper-ness.
The screenwriting story is much more exciting - I’ve signed up for the online Raindance Screenwriting Foundation Course! So many of the wonderful reviews I’m receiving for Outpost 9 and Future’s End touch on the visual and cinematic, and I’m always so pleased to hear that this has come across in the writing. I think I have always seen these stories as films, yep, a tad ambitious… and the odds are a squillion to 0.1… but if I don’t try, I won’t be able to say I’ve failed... 😁
Watch this space… !?
And finally, a teeny snippet from The Incredible Machines of Thinkery: Northern Sky. I realise this isn’t overly cheerful, sorry about that, these just happen to be the freshest words I have to offer.
EXCERPT FROM The Incredible Machines of Thinkery: Northern Sky
I duck through the low doorway with a greeting of ‘Nell, my love?’. As I do every day, returning home from work, entering the poky room that smells slightly less of damp but increasingly of fish. And every day, I offer her - my poor Nell - my embrace. Most often, she turns me away. She is slipping into herself, into the same dark space I have also frequented – where the itching crawl of time and the all-consuming pointlessness of being alive feels like this is all it will ever be.
I hold onto hope for both of us.
I’m genuinely - after many months of not - feeling quite buzzy about getting the book to its first draft stage.
Below are some links you can click on. Please do take a look if you are dystopianly inclined and/or can handle the odd ukulele video.
Thank you so much for reading.
I’ll try to post more often.
PROMISE.
